Holy Name Society

January 26, 2026

The Holy Name Society is one of the oldest and most respected confraternities in the Catholic Church. Established in 1274, it began as a response to the Albigensian heresy, which denied the divinity of Christ. From its very beginning, the society has worked to restore reverence for the Holy Name of Jesus and to encourage devotion to His person and teachings.

The primary purpose of the Holy Name Society is to promote love, honor, and respect for the Most Holy Name of Jesus. Members commit themselves to living with integrity, to speaking and acting with reverence, and to giving public witness to their Catholic faith.

A Brotherhood of Faith and Service

Membership in the Holy Name Society is open to men of the parish who desire to strengthen their faith and support one another in Christian living.
Through prayer, fellowship, and service, members seek both their own sanctification and that of their fellow men.

Some of the spiritual benefits of membership include plenary and partial indulgences, granted through active participation in the prayers, devotions, and works of the society. Members also commit to the duties outlined in the Holy Name Pledge, which include:

  • Promoting love and reverence for the name of Jesus
  • Living with integrity and faithfulness
  • Attending meetings and participating in parish life whenever possible

Parish Involvement

The Holy Name Society plays an active role in the life of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish. Their work includes both spiritual and service-oriented projects that support the entire community.

Some of their ongoing efforts include:

  • Hosting family breakfasts and parish gatherings
  • Organizing the semi-annual Stag Fish Fry
  • Visiting sick and homebound members
  • Assisting with church, rectory, and parking lot maintenance

Providing free transportation to the annual March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Through these activities, the men of the Holy Name Society give powerful witness to faith in action, combining prayer and fellowship with a genuine commitment to serve others.

Join the Holy Name Society

The society welcomes new members who wish to deepen their spiritual lives, grow in fellowship with other Catholic men, and serve the parish community.
If you feel called to join or would like to learn more about membership, please contact the Parish Office for details.
